We often talk about leaders coaching and mentoring others, but how often do we talk about leaders being coachable? Leaders need to learn and be coached, just as much as everyone else. They need to learn from those around them, allowing them to become better leaders.

But to learn, one must be coachable. So how will you become more coachable?

Insecurity Will Start to Creep In!

Insecurity, doubting yourself, imposter syndrome, it goes by many names. Insecurity can be a huge problem for many leaders, doubting their decisions and abilities. However, many times they cause this insecurity.

Isolation causes insecurity, and many leaders tend to isolate themselves. And this isolation, is what causes their doubt & insecurity. If you have a lack of coachability and feedback, you will likely isolate and become insecure.

Be Open with Yourself About Your Goals

The first step is to be open with yourself about your goals. What do you want to achieve? Why do you want to achieve it? And by when do you want to achieve it?

This will require some time of reflection, but understanding your goals and why you want to reach them is crucial. This understand is what will hold you steady when times are tough, so make sure you have a deep understand of your goals.

How to Become More Coachable?

What can you do to become more coachable? Here are a few easy steps:

  1. Have more coaching conversations or feedback sessions. These are precious conversations that can help you to realize your blind spots as a leader. And the more often you have them the easier they will be.
  2. Make a list of different questions you want to ask yourself. If you don’t know the answers, no one else will. So ask deep questions to discover what is really important to you and what drives you.
  3. Reflect! To be a success, coachable leader you need to have an abundance of reflection. Madidate, review, journal, walk, and reflect.

 

Being coachable is crucial to your continued growth as a leader.
